For those who strive to achieve
David Jefferies, the much loved and well respected holder of the
Isle of Man TT outright lap record, tragically died on May 29th,
2003, when he crashed at Crosby on the TT circuit during practice.
The true cause of the accident will never be known and whether it
could have been prevented or not will be always open for debate.
But it is beyond doubt that DJ died doing what he enjoyed most,
racing around the TT circuit at a level which is unlikely to be
surpassed.
We, as a family, have taken great comfort from the thousands of
kind messages left by fans from all over the world. His riding skills
on a motorcycle along with his humorous and friendly nature left
a remarkable impression.
We have decided that it would be appropriate to ensure his memory
will continue to be in the minds of motorcycle fans for ever, and
have launched on the anniversary of his death, the David Jefferies
Memorial Fund.
The fund will be a registered charity, whose aims are to regularly
provide income to other charities which are connected to the motorcycle
sport and to children. Motorcycle sport was his life and his affinity
and natural manner with children was a joy to experience.
We do hope that motorcycle fans will give their generous support
to the fund, in order that we make a charity worthy of David's
status, and that we may continue to, like David did, help those
who strive to achieve.
